So, remember how I talked about not waging comment wars with complete strangers? Yeah, well, I've failed on that one a few times recently. Not completely failed. I guess they weren't wars, per se, since I kept it respectful and ceased and desisted after two, maybe three comments, but, I definitely fell short of the level of self-restraint I'm aiming for and wish others would likewise exhibit. I have come to the conclusion that respectful debate is a dying art form and one that is very difficult to pull off in public online forums. We have become a very negative and critical society, so much so that many people dismiss valid argument as "trolling" and disagreement as disagreeable. The point of this blog is for me to be able to vent my opinions in a (hopefully) less intrusive way than responding to people's Facebook posts so I can move on and stop stewing. I hope it works because I'm literally losing sleep over some of these issues, stupid brain. So, to remind myself of all the things that have been bugging me/on my mind lately and not so lately, here's a list--which I'll be updating periodically--of probable future posts (in no particular order*):
1) Communication, or the lack thereof
2) Cry It Out and other parenting issues
3) Ordain Women
4) Evolution
5) Abortion
6) Atheism
7) "Tangible Evidence"
8) Breast feeding in public
9) Common Core
*I've numbered them so if I can't decide what to write about, I can roll a die to help me out. :)

The Perspective of One LDS Homosexual Man
An honest and thought-provoking article about ONE man's experience with SSA as a member of the LDS church. (I emphasize "one man" to avoid anyone mistakingly thinking that the author is advocating his choice for all people and situations, or that I believe his choices can or should be applied to all people and situations). I'm just happy that there is a growing open and respectful dialogue on this sensitive and complex issue.

"Oh look, public schools are FAILING! But don't you worry, I have just the thing for that!"
Is it just me or does anyone else feel like Arne Duncan and his charter buddy John W. Rogers Jr. (among others) are intentionally exacerbating the problem in our public school system in order to create a greater demand for something they just happen to sell?

Public Education
I'm disgusted with policy-makers who continue to disregard every scrap of research-based information and instead of listening to professionals in the education field, continue to cater to lobbyists and other politicians that are only looking out for their own personal interests. No Child Left Behind is perhaps the worst education legislation ever passed, but I can't say Race to the Top is much better. It's obvious there is a problem in our nation's public education system, but the measures being implemented to "fix" it are so counterintuitive and counterproductive it would be laughable if it weren't so alarming.
